Papercutting is a versatile art form that is enjoying a renaissance in the decorative arts. With lasers and dies, the use of positive and negative designs lends itself to a myriad of 3-dimensional, sculptural uses.

Matisse used papercutting to design fashion, stain glass windows and room murals. The first use of papercuts by the peasants of China was to cut "windows" to allow air in, to create a paper curtain and to provide shadowed privacy.

As lampshades, decorative shoji screens, cutwork curtains and pillows, T-shirt or quilt patterns, papercutting is an art form with limitless design applications.
